Patrick Boase, Chairperson
I first engaged with Parent Network in 1991, attracted by the help it offered me with my young family. I became a facilitator in 1992, and have been running courses in the Glasgow area since then. I have been Chair of PNS since its formation in 1999, and am passionate about our role in improving family lives. I carry out consultancy, training and fund-raising with other charities and campaigns, sometimes working in India through Community Business Scotland Network. I have a daughter of 18 and a son of 12, and run a holiday rental business with my wife in Argyll.
Lucie Macaulay, Acting Treasurer
I did a Parent Network course in 1998 when my daughter was a baby and joined the board as Treasurer later in the year. I became a facilitator in 2003 and have been running courses in Edinburgh and Fife since then. I really enjoy the challenge of facilitating courses and then coming home to try and "practise what I preach". Now that my daughter and son are at school I am teaching myself about permaculture and trying to put that into practise too.
Jan Johnson
I first came across Parent Network during some training I was undertaking for counselling/therapy work. The aspects on 'listening skills' were particularly recommended. When I subsequently undertook a Parent-Link course (as it then was) I did so primarily because I was looking for ways of helping parents cope with some of the behaviours that dyslexic children present. (My main occupation is working with dyslexic individuals and underachievers.) What I gained from the course was way beyond that and I found a whole new perspective for dealing with my own challenging teenagers. Those teenagers are now grown up; one has recently emigrated to Canada with his new wife and the other has presented me with two wonderful granddaughters.... and so the cycle starts again and I am still putting the theories and techniques to good use with toddlers.
